Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

VESPA is back with a bang. I took a test on the LX 125 and can say with confidence that it’s an amazing scooter refined in both styling and technology. It’s going to be a new experience for Indian riders to ride this mean machine.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

There is lot of chrome on the scooter that enhances the looks and make Vespa LX 120 better looking than any other scooter in country today. It has a beautiful chrome appliqué on Front bumper, a Vespa chrome grill, chrome Vespa logo, chrome mirrors, chrome handle bar ends, chrome on suspension and exhaust, tail light chrome appliqué, chrome pillion rider hold, and chrome lined sporty dials.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

The paint job is easily the best ever on any Indian scooter and adds to the overall looks of this Italian classic. It comes with a 3 spoke alloy satin finish wheels and beautiful and clear indicator and headlight. The inbuilt footrests for the pillion rider, art leather seats with a unique stitch pattern and the footboard strips are some of the highlights of Vespa LX125. To make long rides for both the rider and the pillion more comfortable, LX 125 comes with wide and long seat and massive under seat and front storage space.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

My first impression when I laid my eyes on this beauty was WOW. It’s a stunning scooter which will captivate you right from the moment you see it. The fit and finish is world class. Vespa LX 120 is in the league of its own. We have not seen anything like this before in India. The speedometer has a beautiful white background with the fuel gauge and Piaggio logo. It also houses the turn indicator; high and low beam indicators and a digital clock.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125 sports a 125cc 4 Stroke, 3 Valve single Aluminum cylinder head air cooled power plant which is the most powerful engine in its class. The engine delivers a peak power of 10.06 PS at 7500 RPM and a peak torque of 10.6 Nm at 6000 RPM. It has overhead cam & Roller rocker arms, MAP sensing & Variable Spark Timing Management that makes it the most efficient engine in Indian scoter market when it comes to delivering top end performance and engine efficiency. Company claims a mileage of more than 60 kmpl which is the best till date in any Indian scooter.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

Lx 125 has big and affective 150 mm dia self aligning front brake and 140 mm dia rear brake dia coupled with nylogrip tyres for better road grip and stability. I rode the scooter on high speed to test the braking and the road grip on uneven surface and it surpassed all my expectations. I can say that the brakes inspire a lot of confidence when it comes to riding on uneven and unpaved roads.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX 125 has Monocoque full steel body construction to give added strength to the body. The single sided trailing arm front suspension with Antidive and dual effect hydraulic shock absorber can absorb all the jerks and shocks that Indian roads are going to throw at this beauty.

Vespa LX125

Vespa LX125

Now let’s talk about the chink in armor of this Italian beauty, the price, of course.

In my city Ludhiana (Punjab) its costs

–          Ex-Showroom Rs. 72,747 against Rs. 66.661 (Ex-showroom Mumbai) (the difference of Rs. 6,086 is the transportation cost that is to be borne by the buyer).

–          Rs. 1630 for Insurance

–          Rs. 3800 for Registration

–          Rs. 2999 for Teflon Coating (which I strongly recommend)

–          Rs. 2999 for Anti Rust Paint (Which I strongly recommend)

–          This makes its on road price of LX 125 in Ludhiana as Rs. 84325

This price is only around Rs. 22,000 more than the on road price of Honda Activa. The on road price of LX 125 is Rs. 84325 which is equal to buying one Honda Activa by cash and making almost half of the down payment for the second.  We must remember that Honda Active is an excellent scooter and enjoys great brand loyalty amongst Indian buyer. Vespa must think about the price difference and come up with a more realistic price in Punjab. Punjabis are known for their inclination towards premium segment in automobiles and if they can manage to offer same price of Rs. 66661 as in Mumbai, it can catapult the sales of this scooter in the state.

2012 Honda CBR 250R, Review, Test Drive and Specifications

Honda CBR 250R

Honda CBR 250R

Right from the day Honda has launched CBR 250R it has become a serious player in the entry-level sports motorcycle or sports tourer category. I would rather say that it has created a sport tourer category in the 250cc segment around the world. It’s the most versatile 250cc motorcycle till date by any company. It has the power, the speed, the styling, handling, the comfort, fuel economy, durability and above all a very good resale value. Pegged against the Kawasaki Ninja 250R (which is my favorite any day no matter what) has carved a niche in the market and has set the standards high for the upcoming 250cc motorcycles.

Honda CBR 250R

Honda CBR 250R

Ninja being known for its true sports DNA and race course performance is the dominant player in the market and sports a twin cylinder engine and is much more powerful than the Honda CBR250R, but it does lack so many other aspects that make a product a hot selling one. The biggest chink in the Ninja’s armor is its price that is almost double than the Honda.  When it comes to single cylinder motorcycles I think Honda CBR 250R is the best in the market and even the KTM duke lacks the refinement and ride quality that Honda CBR 250R possess.

Honda CBR 250R

Honda CBR 250R

Though the 2012 Honda CBR 250R doesn’t come with any technological upgrades but that doesn’t matter as it already have one of the best single cylinder engine in 250cc segment. The only change that the 2012 Honda CBR250R has is the introduction of a new White/Pearl Blue/Red color scheme while rest of the features remains same. The CBR 250R comes with a super efficient 249cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder, four-valve DOHC cylinder head power plant that generates a decent 25 bhp of peak power at 8500 rpm and a whooping 22.9Nm of peak torque at 7000 rpm. It comes equipped with PGM-FI fuel injection and engine counter-balancer which ensures top end performance and efficiency. The motorcycle holds great aerodynamics and its sporty full cowling gives it great looks and make it Honda VFR 1200 look alike. The instrument panel has a futuristic look with its beautiful silver coated panel and beautiful blue LCD back light display which is another feature that is missing in the Ninja.

Honda CBR 250R Instrument Panel

Honda CBR 250R Instrument Panel

Black color coated stainless steel muffler is a striking feature in the motorcycle and add to the overall looks of the bike. The 5 spook aluminum cast wheels with 110/70 17 front and 140/70 17 rear wheel inspire confidence while riding on high speeds. The ABS in the top end model comes handy while riding in difficult conditions by preventing wheel locking during sudden braking. Engine performance is smooth and free from all type of vibrations. Even if you open full throttle the motorcycles stays calms and you hardly feel any vibes from the engine.

Honda CBR 250R

Honda CBR 250R

The best part that makes any motorcycle a delight to ride is its comfortable riding position and this is one thing that appeals a lot to me. The riding position of Honda CBR 250R is very comfortable and as I was riding this motorcycle right after getting down from the KTM, I can say that KTM Duke 200 has to pull up socks as its riding position as compared to the Honda is not up to the mark. The other feature that makes the ride comfortable is Honda’s Truss Structure and Diamond Frame which is rugged yet flexible.

MP3 Hybrid 300ie from Piaggio: The Next Generation of Scooters

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

A few years back I wrote about the Piaggio MP3 scooter (http://carsmotorcyclesandtravel.com/vespa/vespa/piaggio-mp3-from-vespa/) and I was flooded with the question about its India launch. Well I still have no answer for this question as company has no plans of launching this beauty in India though they have showcased it in the Auto Expo 2012 New Delhi (I am including the pictures).

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

Nevertheless, I have heard a lot about its hybrid version of this scooter in 124cc and now 300cc but got a chance to have a closer look at this beauty Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. The scooter is a true show stopper indeed. The styling and designing is captivating and it’s hard to take your eyes off. You can’t stop wondering about its twin front tyres and I kept trying to figure out the way the tyres have been fitted on the scooter.

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

The scooter first came as a 124cc as world’s first hybrid scooter and now the company has come up with a more advanced, powerful, fuel efficient and bigger displacement version the MP3 Hybrid 300ie. It houses a bigger 278cc power plant generates a peak Hybrid powertrain power of 18.2 kW (25 HP) at 7500 rpm and Hybrid powertrain torque – 27.5 Nm (2.8 kgm) at 3,500 rpm. The Hybrid power trains allow the scooter a faster acceleration that can be compared to a 400cc scooter as per the company’s claim.

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

The electric motor of the MP3 Hybrid 300ie is powered by lithium ion batteries that are planted neatly under the seat and can be charged through a power cable by simply plugging it into a standard electrical power socket. 85% battery can be charged in just 2 hours and complete battery in around 3 hours. Scooter allows you the liberty of running it exclusively on electric power for a few kilometers though and the batteries can also be charged through the petrol engine of the scooter.
MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie offers two drive modes for electric motor and two for hybrid. The rider can easily switch from the hybrid motor to electric and from electric to hybrid by using the button given on the dashboard. The beauty is the reverse gear given in the scooter that is controlled by the electric motor. MP3 Hybrid 300ie comes with quadrilateral front suspension layout that allows the MP3 to tilt into corners with an ease. You don’t have to put your feet down to park the scooter as it comes with electronic front suspension lock system.

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

MP3 Hybrid 300ie

I have just touched a fraction of the features it offers and I really wish this scooter come to India sooner than we think or maybe as a surprise in coming few months. The question will be how much this will be priced in India as this is product that is selling on premium prices in the European markets.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500

Thunderbird is the new offering from Royal Enfield. It is all about the cosmetic changes and nothing new as far as the engine is concerned. Its time RE should upgrade their engine with more BHPs and Tourque.

New all Black Engine looks good.

Same old specs of 500 cc RE mill

Nice new headlamp
