Royal Enfield Bullet Classic: A Comparison between 500CC and 350 CC

Guys here I am giving comparison between 500CC and 350CC Royal Enfield Bullet Classic. In production since 1932, Bullet enjoys the reputation of longest running model in the unremitting production. Recently, after 75 years, its new avatar has been launched in the market with new styling and younger look that does not compromise on what is expected from a Royal Enfield. What sets it apart from just about every other motor bike in the market is its authentic vintage styling and styling in single colour. So here we have a bike reminiscent of the native imaginary of British motorcycles, post World War II.

In case you are a diehard Royal Enfield enthusiast just like me, and planning to buy one, I hope the comparison here will help you to make the right choice.

After riding these bikes for many years now I feel that 500cc motor from RE is the better of the two as 350 is seriously under power giving that everything in these motorcycles is same except the Engines. Power to weight ration in 500cc is much better than 350cc. 350 cc can be a good choice for city rides and occasional highway rides. But for Serious riders like me… I prefer the 500cc motor.

      1. Hi,

I really appreciate the effort you have put in in comparing the two bikes.
What i need to know is the actual mileage comparison between the two bikes and not the one claimed by the company. I am planning to buy the classic350/500 but i am really confused as to which one should i go for.

        Please advice
        Regards,
        Niteen Thakur

      2. may i knw where i can get the custom parts i want for my royal enfield. i stay in india. south of india.

  1. hi,
Can you please go little more in detail about the comparision as I am able to get any of these two as I am not like the one who goes for log drives and all but still I am Bullet lover so technically and as per usability point of view which one is better among 500cc and 350cc if budget is also little considerd.

    rgds,
    -Jass

    1. Hi Jass

The major difference in both the bikes is their displacement tourque and Bhp, rest is more or less same. If you are not the one who go on long drives and will use it in city then 350 cc will be perfect as its is around 25000 rupees cheaper than the 500 cc classic.

Hope you will get you bike soon and post some pictures.

      take care

      Vikas

  2. I believe its the Electronic Fuel Injection, zapper wheels on both ends (350 has only rear) and the Roll over sensor (malfunction indicator) that makes for the 25 to 30k difference in price. I think more or less the said features justifies the cost difference.
If you’re going for the classic, I don’t see why you shouldn’t go all out for the 500cc. I can assure you its going to be worth every paise!

    Cheers!!

  3. How do you compare 350 classic with Electra UCE and Twinspark?? City drive types and reasonbl long drives of 100kms; any reco for Ladakh trip??

      1. vikas j singh ji hello iam mayur from hyderabad iam just 25 old 72 kgs iam planing to take classic 350cc i used karizma R sinces 2010 jan in 2010 only i bookd classic 350 now iam planing to sell my karizma R. so now can u pls suggest me classic 350 is good for me I only run in day maxmum 45kms. and i want to know what is the mileage in city condtions THANK U

      1. I have one classic chrome 500 recently purchased, also have an old model showroom condition standard 350 since 1992, with my experience in between the classic 500 and 350 old model entirely difference in riding these models. I think more than better for long riding is classic 500 because of fuel injection system that’s why. Therefore, bullet 350 also, excellent performance for riding short-distance with below 70 km/h .

  4. hi,
    Vikas J singh
can u just guide me over as i am planning 2 buy a royal enfield.
i don know much about this bike bt really passionate for getting this into my garage.
i am much intrested in buying a classic one that is 350cc or 500cc any one.
i have some questions i hope you could hlp me out.
    1. the main factor is cost. what is cost of this 2 bikes?? for mumbai
    2. i have daily journey of 100km a day.wat average does this both bike give??
    3. which all colours are available in market.. is white available??
    4. what is the approximate w8n period for this bike??
    5. whta do u recomend th1 shld buy between this 2 bikes i.e 500cc or 350cc..

    regards,
    mitesh sanghavi

    1. But a Royal Enfield Classic 350cc only if you are passionate about it but if you can look at other bikes then buy a Honda CBR 250r as its a great value for money and a bike to last a lifetime. You will never regret buying it.

  5. I want to gift the Royal Enfield to my bro,
price is not the matter for me, i just want to know which is good and reliable.
I dont have any idea about this.
    Will you give any suggestion.
I want to bye it in Pune and handover him at Nashik. Is it ok ,Is there any distance service facility.
Or its good to bye it in Nashik only..

    1. If you want to gift than I suggest you gift a Honda CBR250r as its better value for money and your brother will thank you always for such a wonderful gift. Royal Enfield is not a reliable as a Honda. The price of RE 500cc and Honda CBR 250 base model (without ABS which are also not present in RE are same)

      1. I think Vikas it is like comparing the performance Japanese bikes to a cult brand like HD in US. The RE owner in India owns a RE only because of the pride of ownership. People having RE carry a different feeling of ownership not just a utility factor. I WOULD suggest if you have the desire to be one among the class of RE owners So be there otherwise the market has all sorts of options why only Honda. If going for RE only think of 500 don’t settle for a lesser one

  6. Hello Vikas,

I would also like your advice on these Royal Enfield bikes. I have only recently fallen in love with the idea of owning a motorbike. My plan is to use a bike not just for short trips (such as Delhi to Jaipur or Pondicherry to Bangalore and also for commutes within the city), but to also make very long road trips (i.e. from Pondicherry to Ladakh).

Personally, I love the look of the 500cc model, but I don’t know whether these two models you have compared would be good for very long road trips – most likely just short trips and within the city. Am I correct in my assumption?

Concerning only Royal Enfield bikes (the others besides the ones you have compared here), which would you recommend for use within the city/short commutes, long road trips or perhaps one bike that can manage both requirements? Are Royal Enfield bikes like the 500c or the 350cc reliable on long journeys or do they have problems/break down often? Which one tends to break down more easily?

I know reliability is a big factor for long trips, but I don’t want just a boring, highly efficient bike…I would like some character.

Are there any other brands/models of bikes that you would recommend besides Royal Enfield for these multi purposes? I’ve also been looking at Harley Davidson models for my long cruising purposes and I’ve heard that the various Japanese bikes are also very good choices. Right now, I’m not concerned with price – I just want to know about the motorbikes themselves.

Thanks so much for your time,

    Nirvan

    1. Dear Nirvan

      Thanks for your mail.

If you are looking for a bike which can serve you on both long and short trips then I will never recomend a Royal Enfield. I believe its not as reliable as a Japanese bikes.

Royal Enfield cant be compared to any other bike and they are in a different league. But its my personal view that its is not a reliable motorcycle for long distance travel like Pondicherry to Ladakh.

If you are looking at Harleys and money is not the crieteria for you then I suggest you go for Kawasaki Ninja 650r which is a excellent and brilliant tourer as well as city sport bike. It prices around 4.57 lacs ex showroom and has a very refined engine and gives great value for money. Or a Harley 883 superlow which can also be customised in a cruiser and can serve you as a sporstster in the city.

Or if you want something below 2 lac price range or lets say with price tag close to a royal enfield 500cc then you better get a Honda CBR 250r. This Honda is a great value for money as well and is very good in city as well as if you like to tour across the country as its top model comes with an ABS which can come handy while riding in the tough terrian of Ladakh.

But if money is not the crieteria then nothing can beat Kawasaki Ninja 650r but you have to wait now as the booking for ninja is closed by Kawasaki for time being.

Make sure that you take a good long test drive of all these bikes before you buy any.

      take care

      Vikas

      1. Hi Vikas,

Thanks for your input. But I’m still confused about certain things. The Kawasaki Ninja 650r and the Honda CBR 250r are both very sporty bikes. Even though they are great for touring as you say (plus great city bikes), I was thinking of something more along the lines of a classic look. That’s why the Royal Enfield 500cc was so appealing. And yes, the Harley 883 Superlow is also great!

So the Royal Enfield bikes are definitely not good for long distance touring in your opinion? Are they OK for short city-to-city journeys? What is a Royal Enfield 350cc or 500cc ideal for, in your opinion? And what type of cruiser bike (not overly racing-type ones) are good for long distance touring? For example, the types suitable for going cross-country in rough terrain/weather and where you carry all your travelling/camping equipment with you? Stuff like that.

        Regards,

        Nirvan

      2. Dear Nirvan

Royal Enfield are cult bikes like Harleys, Indian and Triumphs. The tecnology Royal Enfield is using is old as compared to the japanese, European and American bikes. I will not say RE are outrighly bad for long distance travels, but there are chances they you face problems with them on long distance rides. But with superior technology bikes you are not going to face troubles. This is my opinion but people may differ with me and I respect their opinion as well. RE is a great bike for a road trip of say 1000 kilometers but not for longer trips like pondy to Ladakh

First of all you need to shun this image that long distance motorcycles should not have sport bike like looks. CBR 250r is inspired from Honda VRF 1200 which is a specialist touring motorcycle.

For long distance travel you can also consider Pulsar 220 F which is a very capable touring motorcycle. In rough terrains this bike can perform better than RE.

Ironically there is not much choice of touring motorcycles in India as on today for motorcycles that have classic looks but then you can go for 883 superlow as its my personal favorite also as it has the biggest fuel tank and upright seating position that makes it good for long distance travel.

But its upto you what you like. But the classic looking curisers are actually not touring bikes.

        Take care

        Vikas

      3. Dear Vikas Ji,

Sorry for rate reply, and on the commernt which is used by you “RE is not good for Long Drive”, Peoples have drive RE from Manchester U.K to chennai which cannot done by anyother bikes……..this one example will satisfy the comment.

It is all depends on the condition of the vehicled. If RE with all original parts and with originality will suitable for all types of Road and RIDE.

      4. Dear Friend

I agree with you if you are talking about the old RE’s, but the RE of today are of no match to those old one which were rugged and reliable. Today’s RE is all about problems and complaints. I hope the Thunderbird 500 that is to be launched on 11th October is an improved version.

        Take care

    2. Dear nirvan

I m the rider of royal Enfield since 10 years I owend 1973 model. 10 years back I bought it from paundichery and drive across the India. ( 215000 km in 10 years) I know there is problem with RE but this is the most reliable bike I have seen. Had driven so many bike like Harley ninja and ktm pulsar many more. But east to west RE is the best

      1. I agree with you. Royal Enfield had improved a lot and there was a time when I use to be a critic of the old RE because it was not as reliable as the today’s RE is. But Today if I have to chose a motorcycle, it will be without any doubt an RE

  7. Hi,

I spent quite a lot modifying a 1994 RE, Standard 350cc. However, it struggles to reach 100 KMPH….

Would you advise changing the engine to a 500 CC one? who much would it cost me?

    Kindly let me know.

    Thanks
    Joshua

    1. Dear Joshua

By making changes in the 350 cc engine it can be converted to a 500 cc engine. I know a person in my city Ludhiana (punjab) who does this. But obviously he dosent tell me how he do it. This change increases the power of the engine and I am sure you motorcycle will easily cross 100 kmph. I think he mnakes some changes in the bore and crank plus some other minor changes. You can get in touch with some very good and experienced mechnic in your city who also is into modification of RE.

      all the best

      Take care

      Vikas

      1. Hai Vikas,
Iam RE lover and own TBTS,I would like to convert it to 500cc,Can U please give me contact of the mechanic you mentioned.
        thanks ans regards

  8. hey vikas I don’t agree with your opinion that royal enfield motorcycles are not meant for long distance touring infact on the contrary RE are designed for long distance touring and they are proving this for several years my friend !!!
Coming to your second misconception about RE motorcycles that their technology is out dated. you can go any authorised showroom or google about the above mentioned motorcycles and their specifications… You will be surprised to see that they have revamped all their models with unit construction engine which is very reliable and is euro 4 compliant.
I own a royal enfield classic 500 and very much satisfied with the bikes performance it has nice uce based engine , efi system from kehien japan, starter motor by denso… I hope the above explanation will help you to change your views about RE motorcycles !! 1. Hi Abhishek
I dont have RE 500 classic. But the average is around 30-32 and yes the maintenece cost depends on the riding style, but yes its towards the higher side.

      2. I am owning a classic 500 2016 model its now about 9000 km odo and its goving me milage about 28-32

  10. I was told that fuel average of 500 is low, so that on long tours you might have to carry extra tank on side saddle for fear of fuel running out between two petrol pumps. Looking to buy a bike basically for Sunday rides. Price isn’t much important. Just wondering if I cud still think of the 500 Classic ?

    1. Rahul,

You dont have to carry extra fuel, With full tank I rode classic 500 from Ahmedabad to Navsari that is around 280 Kilometres and still had some fuel left in my tank. I have never checked exactly what mileage it gives per liter.
Any classic 500 owners can you please advise if you have changed your exhaust to goldstar exhaust and did that improve the sound.

  11. Vikas,.

Its good to see all above views 🙂 can you clarify me for a couple of questions 1) classic 500 runs with petrol or diesel??
    2) Difference between Electronic Ignition and Digital TCI
    3) Difference between Fuel Injection and Twinspark

I have already booked Classic 500 & eagerly waiting for it 🙂

    Thanks,

    1. Vinodh

      Your questions are actually funny.
You dont know that whether classic 500 is pertol or diesel and you already have booked the motorcyle.

      1. Dear Nitin,
I agree with you that the new classic is a different than old 1992 350 cc model. Classic 500 is always my choice as it has more power and better performance than the old model. But the old model can do long rides and recently one of my friend did a ride of Reckong Peo-Kalpa-Rogi-Pangi and sangla chitkul on his old model 350cc RE. But I will personally trust a new 500cc motor of RE.

enfield users will appreciate the power… now i am getting this wildest idea of buying an old RE and convert into a harley… eventhough half the the bike has to be imported..

  19. Hi Vikas,

I am planning to buy classic 350, i don’t know much about classic 350, and how is the maintenance of this bike…can you please help…

  20. Hi Vikas,
Wanted to know if i take re classic 350 without fuel injection now and some years later can it be cobverted to fuel ingection… silly thought but useful..
as classic 500 still have issues with its ecu and anyhow indian 500 doesn’t have O2 sensor and many felt jerking issues and planning to change the ecu to get rid of all this. no one complained for 350 with carburator. don’t know how good it is..
felt rear tire better than other re but still just 110mm fz still have thicker one even pulsar 180/220 have 120mm i feel. superlow in bangalore costing 6.7 lacks on road 1 lack road tax.. i felt better take re classic 350 and enjoy instead of spending too much… 40km daily city ride that too on highway…
whats your suggestion. haven’t took proper test ride for re but heard… cbr never drove heard of bad plastic quality… single cylender etc. 1.67 on road bangalore and 2 lacks for abs version here…

  21. I am great lover f royal enfield. I am confusd between 350 r 500. whc one to buy. i am col stdnt studin at 1st puc. so i am planin to buy it nxt year. whc one wil u suggst me. and also tel me mileage

      1. The 350 is not available with Fuel Injection. Only the 500 comes come with Fuel Injection. Desert Storm, Chrome etc are exclusive 500 models.

  23. Engine of Royal Enfield Classic 350cc
The bike runs on a powerful 346cc engine from Thunderbird Twinspark, and it generates a torque of 19.8 Bhp of maximum power at 5250 revs giving 28 Nm of torque. We will talk about UCE or the Unit Construction Engine in detail. However, there is not much of a difference between Royal Enfield Classic 500 and Classic 350cc other than the engine capacity.

  24. UCE: The Royal Enfield Classic engine comes with clutch and the gearbox which are integrated into crank case and they are situated outside. The UCE or the Unit Construction Engine reduces transmission losses and are absolutely hassle free when it comes to maintenance.

  25. I hear the new C5s (2012 models) made by RE is coming out with heavy mods, compared to the up to date C5s released, is this true? i mean, RE did bring changes in the air filter and swing arms. does anybody here know how to track these mods?
    thnx.
    happy thumping.

  26. I want to buy a bke but my father says that he only wants bullet and i want r15.plzz tell which is better in these both. And plzz tell which is better in classic 500 and classic 350

    1. There is no comparison of both the motorcycles. RE is a cult motorcycle and R15 is a sports bike. If you want to enjoy the ride experience, and need a high performance motorcycle then go for R15 as its technologically ages ahead of RE Bullet but if you are looking to own a cult motorcycle them go for Bullet.

  27. Hiii vikas..can u tell me why u r offering honda cbr250 instead of royal enfield 500cc bike..i m confused about it because i think honda cbr250cc looks like baby bike in front of royal enfield 500cc..as nobody see honda cbr when royal enfeild is also present at that time…

    1. Hi Krunal
I think my commenets are misundersttod and I owe a clarification to all. Well CBR 250 and RE are two different motorcycles and should not be compared.
What I want to say is that those who buy RE buy it for the love of it. RE is a great motorcycles because it is legendary and has a glorious history. But we all must also accept that it is poor when it comes to technical comparison. Actually someone asked me that he wants to buy a RE for long drives and I gave my view about CBR and RE that If I have to buy a motorcycle for long drives I will certainly go for a CBR 250 for its handling, looks and technical superiority. Yes, now you will say that for decades people are doing long cross country rides on RE but let me tell you that they have faced a lot of problems and if you try a long cross country drive on a CBR you will feel the differnce.

But to sum it all I am a great fan of the legendary Royal Enfield and always hold a great respect the RE Motorcycles.

  28. hi….
i hv a bullet stAndard 350 bt nw i want to change my machine….can u suggest me that which is better…bullet classic 500 or
standard 2009 model which costs around 85000….???

  29. what I really want to knw is the comparison between standard 350 and classic 350..! bullet, though they hv been for 75 years, they really lack technology barring few changes in electronic ignition and new engine.. but I dont think it makes much difference..! even the 500 doesn’t give th power of a 250 cc make ..!! bullet only rides on tradition.. I hv 2 bullets in my house, ’68 and ’90 models.. u just cant find any difference…!
pls lost a comparison of the standard 350 and Classic 350.. pls highlight on new technologies brought in classic 350..!

    1. Dear Ralph
I second you everthing you have written above, I am also of an opinion that Royal Enfield is riding on the good will it has created few decades ago. The technology is old and the motorcycle is seriously underpowered. I can write the comparison on the classic and standard 350 but there is not much to tell about the technoligical advancements in the Motorcycle.

Ralph if you go through all the comments I had got on this post you will find one of my comments where I have highlighted this fact about the outdated technology.

  30. My family have been looking at whether to get a Honda 250 or a Royal Enfield 500, and as reliability is very important I think you have just persuaded us in favour of the Honda. But re: petrol or diesel – I think somebody somewhere started a rumour that the 500 was actually a diesel! Thanks for your help!

    1. You have made a right choice as honda CBR 250R is a better motorcycle in every field if compared to the Royal Enfield 500. Royal Enfield 500 is a petrol motorcycle only.

      1. dear vikas,
great comparison…but missin out the point royal enfield cannot be compared to the honda or bajaj or yamaha…its in a different class..its a legend…nobody should buy an enfield because u want a bike ..i started 10 years ago with a machismo…and all along these years i have had 5 different enfields (classic, electra) i fell in love with bikin and the very presence of the bike ….i mean to say its not for everyone … but then who r v inside ..everyone buys a bike then how many r bikers??? few right…enfielder for life(chd enfield club)

      2. Dear Gurpreet,

I completely agree with you, but I compared RE with Honda because someone asked me which one is value for money and I believe that Honda is value for money and RE is not value for money but RE is much more than value for money, its a cult motorcycle and has no comparison.

  31. HI everyone ,
i am a RE 500 classic owner .let me tell u a couple of things…great bike superb on rough terrain.great to drive around the city…good looks everyhing a biker needs ..but guys what r u comparing enfield to?…thats the question ..most of the people who buy enfield or atleast me is for the love of it…nothing compares to ridin an enfield (just returned to chandigarh from kinnaur h.p) . i have driven enfield for last 10 years …yeah high maintanance ..some glitches but isn’ t that the fun of it all. I just want to put forward a simple thought if u just wanna drive a bike dont buy enfield ..if u wanna fall in love with bikin buy one

    1. Well expressed. I wonder why is the discussion on RE vs others is still on. There is no comparison possible. Can one compare mind and heart. If one uses too much of mind then one should not consider RE. RE users have a heart which has beats of a different resonance.

  32. Hello..
I own a honda CBR 250 r..11 months old..now i am lookin forward to shift to royal enfield but i am really confused what to do..Sell my cbr get a brand new classic 350 or 500 or get a second hand classic and keep my cbr!!!…help!!!

  33. Good thought well said RE cadres to the niche group the loves riding and not all who ride for the heck of it..I am just going to book myself a classic 350 ! Also I think the bike is reliable enough for long distances ..Re group has been arranging the trips themselves ..

  34. CBR caters to Sports bike enthusiasts while RE is for mature bike lovers who carry the pride of driving a RE. After all there is a “Royal” element in it……..
I have driven both Classic 350 and Classic 500 but I feel C5 is a class different. The Higher torque and cc is clearly felt

  35. @vikas – would be glad if you could help me with this one!
got my C500 a week back, IT NEEDS the change of the rear tyre! (not a personal opinion but the rear tyre is actually not good enough for the amazing engine).
    it is 110/90-18″
    i have 2 questions;
    1. can the rear one be changed to 120/90-18″ ones?
    2. is it possible to get a shorter tyre eg- 110/90-17″ or 120/90-17″ ?

another technicality i wanted to clear from my head. when we say 110/90, 110 is the width, & 90 is height/ width, so if we buy 120mm width tyre does the spec change to 120/80 (taking the ratio into consideration), OR DOES THE REST REMAIN THE SAME 120/90 after the change in tyre width?

  36. c500 on paper comes with 120/90-18 plz check with the website. so need be check wth ur dealer.
both aspect ratio may be available u need to check options avalable higher the ratio (percentage) side wall changes so does the comfort level. low aspect ratios will lead to more comfortable rides but be ware of Indan bad roads were lower ratios is not suitable

  37. What problem? as far as I know there is no problem. If you could elaborate I could throw some more light. As per me it is a very good RE perhaps the best of the recent REs in the market.

  38. It can be lowered only by modification and changing the seat position some alterations are required.

  39. Seen the comments given, I’m here in Assam, plan to go for 350cc, can the rear Tyre 120/80-18″ from a 500cc, which the dealers are giving “MRF” brand here, can it be fitted on to a 350cc classic rear, would the additional weight or slight variation in dimension change the performance of the bike, fat one’s at the back, sure do look good!!!

  40. how said royal enfield motorcycles don’t stands for value for money? it dose and much better than those jap toddlers. believe me. they dies young. no long life.

  41. hey vikash,,,,first of all thanks for clearing all confusion above…….i just want to know that i have to drive 60 kms a day,,is classic 350 is good for that or not,,,,,i am driving sporty type bike(pulsar, discover) since last 6 yrs and i am literally fed up….just want to change the taste….my budget is also 1,30000,,,,so pls suggest me whether i shud go fir it or not.

  42. Well I am amazed to see bullet being compared to Avenger/other sport bikes..

One cant really compare d Bull with other.. its a class apart and stand out any day…CL500 is best you can get if its not much pain to your pocket, its worth every penny… From looks from original 1950 & technological updates this bike got it all… Pride for any owner to have it in his/her garage… Riding one is sheer pleasure….

  43. I have got my Bull CL 500 delivered and I am enjoying every bit of it. truly I have driven a CBR 250, and other bikes which claim to give you pleasure. But now after having driven almost 200 kms on the first day itself. I no CL 500 is pleasure unlimited other bikes are real kid stuff. NEIGHBORS envy OWNERS pride

  44. I have booked classic 350, and i want to know that can i change the stock to upswept silencer at same time of delivery, or later. Then when should i change that.

    Thanks

  45. I heard, classic 350 rear tyre and mudguards clearance so poor. It will harms mudguard while ofroad driving. Is it true. (2 person on classic 350)

  46. hai guys
can any one help with my confusion whether to buy an old 350 std good condition added crank or new classic 500 ….

  47. Hi Vikas/ Frens ,
Please suggest me if I should go with clasic 350 or Desert storm 500 .. Am in big confusion . I need some cons and Pros of both 350 nd 500.. Am making my mind to 500 becaus of the colour of Desert Storm. I am taking this bike mainly fo Wekend drive . Also I want to kow he worst city milage fo both.

your inputs are much appreciated !!

  48. Vikas can u pls tell me whether if there is any change between classi 350 and 500 in lookwise??
I feel 500 looks like a bull and 350 does not have that look why?

  49. Its very simple really. To own a Royal Enfield you simple need to either know a bit about how a four stroke engine works or willing to improve your knowledge about it,then there’s nothing better than a Royal Enfield. Its ideally for a person who just likes the feel of it,the roughness the raw power, the idea of owning a work of art,its like the bikes in Motorcycle diaries, its like a world war two bike.its just meant for a different kind of person.its more manly and has a responsible look to it as long as you don’t change the look to much,as compared to the more boyish and yes you could even say more stylish bikes around. In short you got to love it for what it is and not just because it has a big look.
I think Royal Enfield has done a remarkable job so far and improved what really will make a difference. A CV carb a similar model in almost all bikes and used even in some of the Bajaj bikes…takes care of fuel problems.A cdi unit so there’s no need for timing gears and the manually points system ,shifting the gear shifter to the left and getting ride of the neutraliser…You look after the bike and ride it knowing what.s happening in the bike I would say its as reliable as any other bike.
And if someone says its out dated maybe so but you still have a slower speed 350 cc engine with a lot of power giving you a mileage of 50km a leter is good for me. The old traditional Tappids, rocker arms pushrods are replaced buy timing belts in other bikes and things like a more compact engine makes them a little more reliable and smoother and hence at higher speeds less chances of something going wrong thats about it…
In short lets just say the Royal Enfield is something like a old seiko winding watch while the modern other motorcycles is some like a fasttrack watch…
Of course you don’t need to be a mechanic to own a bullet just give it for its regular services, follow the manual and ride sencibly and it won’t let you down.

    1. Hi reggie
I wanna buy a RE.. So please tell me which one is better, bullet 350 UCE Or bullet 500 UCE !? And please I’m talking about the standard models not these new classic models! As I’ve heard from almost all the bullet fans in my friend circle that the 350 standard model is the best! Please give your expert comment!

If any other respected bulleteers can advice me on this topic, then please help me out!
      Thanks in advance!
      Kind regards!
      Dr. Amit

  50. Thanks for finally talking about >Royal Enfield Bullet
Classic: A Comparison between 500CC and 350 CC | Cars And Motorcycles <Liked it!

  51. I have a specialist question. Can a 500 cc cylinder fit a 350 cc engine block, stroke is the same in both, as is the compression. Can a 500 cc complete engine fit the 350 frame? I ask because here in Thailand we cannot import RE bikes, but I found a legal one (with book) which is 350 cc. and want to make a 500 cc out of it. Also, can one buy engines and/ or cylinders in India? Please can someone enlighten me, I really want this bike.

  52. i buyed classic 350 yesterday…and 70 km rided , now am facing too much jerking when gear in newtral position…. any body please tell me why it is happening and how to minimise it? thanking you very much…

  53. HI,

I am thinking of buying a Classic 500 Chrome. However i saw a few comments above which says Desert Strom is better.

I will be using this bike for commuting as well as short touring, but mileage is not a consideration factor for purchase (just respect the bike too much). However i may need a rear seat installed, can it come company fitted or would I have to get it done separately?

Also does the classic 500 have a better “thump”, than the newly released Bullet 500?

    1. Hi Milind

Both Classic Chrome 500 and Desert storm 500 are same, its just the paint job that’s different. If you are going to use it for touring as well then I think Desert Storm color will be better as it will be easy to maintain. The rear seat is part of the package and you will get one fitted when you purchase the motorcycle. As far as the thump is concern the thump of classic 500 is as good as standard 500 but I have felt that the classic 350 cc had a slightly better thump then the 500 cc engine but at the same time while touring I have felt that the 350 cc is a little under power. Nevertheless both 350 and 500 are good and my suggestion is to go for Classic 500 Desert Storm as it will give you more power and a good thump as well.

      Ride safe and take care

  54. Hi Vikas,
I have booked RE C350, however i like DS 500. Still in dual mind to decide which would be the best bike for me. Need more + and – on both the models. Please help me!! Thanks!!

  57. hi i am planning to buy a 500cc Royal enfield, but i am confused between desert storm and thunderbird.

Can anyone please help me on this

    1. Hi Sourav

Both are very good bikes but Thunderbird is much much more comfortable and handles better than Classic. You can do long rides without getting tied on a Thunderbird. I am riding a Thunderbird for last 18 months and I have nothing to complain about. Its an excellent machine. For me go for Thunderbird 500. There are two beautiful new color option also available in Thunderbird now.

      1. Hi Vikas,
I can make out from your comments that u r somewhat of a bike enthusiast. I have never rode a bike. Infact just learned to ride the bicycle couple of weeks ago. Ive been driving cars for 10+ years. Now I am ready and willing to buy a RE. Im not a big fan of bikes. But an RE appeals to me.
My question to you was which RE bike would u suggest I ride? I know its a matter of personal choice. To make things easier I have a couple of choices. One is the std 500 green and the second is Classic 500 dessert storm. I also like the thunderbird in dark blue. For me it is about the vintage look. I will only be keeping a single seat. I want to enjoy my Sunday rides. For passengers I got a car. Also maybe get a good paintjob done on the bike later.
        Will appreciate your views.

  58. Will there be a major comparison when it comes regarding the looks for a 300 & 500 cc bullet?

500 cc will give a way better performance undoubtedly but will it have a more bold or better look?

Also what would be the best silencer that one should put which really gives the thump. Planning to buy a black classic, still deciding on the cc and the silencer.

  59. NEED GUIDANCE / SUGGESTION FROM THIS GROUP i am about to buy Enfield 500 cc classic 2010 model. one mechanic told me that it has many problems. especially fuel injectors and engine block. is it so? shud i drop my plan to buy 2010 model classic 500 cc. PLS ADVICE…

  60. I ride a 500 cc Thunderbird. Its a amazing motorcycle and I personally believe that no matter which model you buy, buy a 500 cc engine as 350 c is seriously under power. I found Thunderbird very very comfortable in long journeys. The looks and handling is also very good. Rest the 500 cc engines is same in all the models.

  61. i vikas i am vishnu i have a doubt ,that is i love re it has a royalty look than any other one but there is any problem if it driving in slow speed like {40-60} please replay

Dear Sir , please advise me about the stamina of the bikes RE 350 cc ,CBR250cc and CB Unicorn 150 cc in terms of continous drive and comfort ,can we drive all three bikes continously for 300 kms in summers and winter and any issues like overheating problems seizure etc ? More can we export these cheap bikes to europe for personnel use from india as the cost of these bikes is very less here .

  68. Hlo sir . My height is 5’3″ and not lean body. Can u suggest me which one i bought RE350 or RE 500. Can theire is a modification by which i can reduced the height of bikes without compromise with the mileage of bike. Can there is Seat available in the market that lower its height to some Centimetres

    1. In classic 350 cc no desert Strom color or battle green is available .if u want you can spend money for paint job .and get the parts from http://www.royalenfieldzone.com/handle_bars.asp and get assemble in your local mechanic or re store’s

If you like colors of chrome in 500cc classic
      Maroon / black
Then better buy 350 cc classic maroon /ash white
Then we can buy chrome maroon color /black color parts
Like tank .mud guards and side cap and a battery box chrome casing & tool box for a complete change of look .

In maroon color side caps are no need to buy
Head lamp and from shock absorbers colors match
In white colore battery caseing no need to buy
      Or
else can make a change to YOU old royal Enfield 350 classic which makes it look brand

  69. Dear , can you tell me how long can drive with this at single time?? And what are the long distance riding conditions??
    Does it has tubeless tyres??
Which are the best wheels?? Steel or alloy ??

    Thanks in advance!!!

  70. Dear vikas, I have decided to get 500 classic, but bit confused in colours dessert storm or battle green, and moreover on RE WEBSITE I saw some limited edition is coming within next 39 days.
Please guide me so so that I can finalise and will have my dream bike.

  71. hi,

i am interested in buying a Classic 500cc. But when i searched for its Pros n Cons, i came to know that many are facing issues with the EFI. As this part has to be replaced if it gets damaged (there is no alternative to repair as suggested by the showroom officials), which will add an extra 13k every time. So what is your suggestion about the 500cc Classic and its perfomance in long run? I am planning for some serious long road trips across India in coming years. So i dont want to carry the burden, pressure and suspense regarding the special part of the bike…:)

  72. Dear Sir, I want to purchase 500cc 2nd world war edition (model). I need the mileage, long ride, maximum kilometres continue riding, maintenance expenses, availability at selam District, T N, India, price on road, colour.

  78. Hi, Vikas Please tell me a bike with mileage between 60 to 70 good looking and solid, strong, might be metal body parts easy available in India maintenance anywhere in rural parts of India. Below 1 lakh .I have classic chrome 500.

Is there any option to add a k&n air filter or other any to my 350. Plz don’t take it as a funny question. Waiting for your replay.
